Clean Water for All God’s Children
Objective:
to reinforce the idea that God uses water to cleanse
Suggested Games:
1. Children love to blow soap bubbles: Here are several simple recipes for bubbles:
1/3 cup Dawn dish soap
1
cup water
1
tsp. sugar
OR
8
Tbsp. liquid detergent
1
quart water
a small amount of corn syrup
OR
1 part clear dishwashing liquid
15 parts water
a few drops of glycerin (available in drugstores)
A simple game to play with bubbles is to pair the children up, facing each other. Each
child has a bubble blower (you can make these with bent wire) and a cup of bubble stuff.
Standing close to each other, each in turn tries to ‘hit’ the other with a bubble. If either is
successful, they move one shoe length farther apart. The one that ‘hits’ from the greatest
distance wins.
Remind the children that they are now a little bit ‘cleaner’ than they were, that water
helps to keep our bodies clean; soap helps, but water does the cleaning!
2.
“Germ Tag”
Select several students to be ‘germs’. Let them wear colored bandannas to indicate that
they are ‘germs’. The other children line up on both sides of the room, with ‘germs’ in
the middle. When ‘germs’ say “Go!”, children try to run to the other side of the room
without being tagged by a germ (germs must stay in the middle area of the room, marked
by masking tape). If tagged, the children must freeze in the middle of the room. When
‘germs’ say “Go!” again, untagged children try to run across the room again; as they do
so, they may rescue a ‘frozen’ child by taking the child by the hand and running to the
side of the room before the ‘germs’ tag either of them.
Remind the children that germs can make us sick so that we can’t go to school or out to
play; fortunately, there are things (like washing our hands) that can keep the ‘germs’
away!
