With the addition of our Clean Water U
campus at Calvin Crest Conference Center
in California, new instructors were needed.
Jim and Kathy Bricel have stepped up to
help.
The Bricels live inYakima, Wash., in the
center of the state. Their family includes
three handsome sons: Josh, 19, Cyrus, 22;
Seth, 24; and Seth’s beautiful wife, Sarah
Beth. They attend First PresbyterianChurch
of Yakima, a large, traditional church locat-
ed in the downtown section of the city.
Their involvement with LWW began
one Sunday when Jim noticed someone
new at the church coffee machine. The
couple was visiting from Mississippi and
asked Jim if their church was involved with
Living Waters.
The visitors gave Jim an LWW card and
website information. Shortly thereafter,
Jim went to CWU at Hopewell, and when
the first CWU training was held at Calvin
Crest, Kathy was a student.
Jim has been interested in making clean
water available to those in need since his
early 20’s. Since their children were now
grown, the Bricels could now devote more
time and energy to a ministry like Living
Waters.
They have stayed involved because of
the call to the mission of LWW and their
love for the people—their team in Yakima,
the LWW staff and for those they have met
in country.
Jim assists with the installation of the
water system for their church team and is
a ROS instructor at CWU, as well as serving
on the Yucatan coordinating team. Kathy
participates as a 102 on their church team
CWU Who:
Bricels important toWest Coast CWU
and as a 102 instructor for CWU.
Jim and Kathy have experienced first-
hand what we refer to at Clean Water U as
“heart before hardware.”
“You hear it taught at CWU, but it is
true, that relationships are the core of what
Living Waters is about,” they said. “Prepare
as much as you can before you go and enjoy
the ride. Expect the unexpected. God will
bless your efforts.
“The love that is shared is pure joy, but
it can be also be painful, as we experienced
when one of the brothers we had worked
with in Chapab in the Yucatan died. We
cherish the friendships we have developed.”
The Bricels will be with us at our CWU
session at Calvin Crest October 7-11, 2012—
we hope your team will be with us!

Alabama congregation links to Dominican Republic
First hands-on mission work gets results
By JIM BRADLEY
In 2006, Wil Howie spoke at
First Presbyterian Church of Eu-
faula, Ala., and first introduced
our congregation to the work of
Living Waters for the World.
Over the next two years, our
Missions Committee sought the
Lord’s guidance to reach out be-
yond our own community.
In September 2008, five
members of our church at-
tended Clean Water U at Camp
Hopewell in northern Missis-
sippi. While our church has long
supported missions, and Presby-
terian missionaries, this was our
first direct mission participation
effort.
At CWU, we met Joel Zama-
rano of Guadalajara, Mexico, a
Youth with a Mission (YWAM)
missionary to the Dominican
Republic.
Joel asked us to consider
covenanting with a Dominican
Republic site since there was
a huge need for clean water in
hundreds of small villages in
the mountainous area near Ja-
rabacoa.
Our church session approved
establishing a relationship with
Joel and YWAM. Since 2009
when we installed our first sys-
tem in Los Higos, we have con-
tinued our work and completed
our eighth trip to the Domini-
can Republic this April. All of
the systems are within a few
miles of Jarabacoa.
Our congregation has dou-
bled its mission’s budget since
we began our work in 2008.
We are maintaining close
relationships with our operat-
ing partners through Facebook,
and visiting with each partner
on every trip to the Dominican
Republic.
