Clean Water for All God’s Children
Objective:
to encourage students to think about the problem of dirty water and the advantages of
clean water, and to allow them to creatively imagine how dirty water might be made
clean.
Materials:
drawing paper, pencils, markers, and/or crayons; a picture of the
Living Waters for the
World
water purification system, a clear pitcher filled with clean water; a clear pitcher
filled with dirty water (made with finely crumbled chocolate cookies, rather than dirt, in
case children drink it!); a sieve; coffee filters; small clear plastic cups
Teacher Instructions:
explain to students that many children in the world (about 40%!) have only dirty water to
drink. Ask them how they think it would be to drink water from that pitcher. Tell them
about
Living Waters for the World’s
desire to bring clean water to all of God’s children
by purifying the water that they have, using a series of tubes and filters and pumps. Then
ask them to draw their idea of a ‘machine’ that we could pour this dirty water into, and
have it come out like this clean water. A sample introduction to this project is included.

Day 1: Mission
Imagining Clean Water
Idea!
If your congregation is
sponsoring a
Living
Waters for the World
project, you may have
an actual model of a
system that the children
can see after they have
drawn their ideas.
Idea!
Make this concept more concrete by
pouring ‘dirty’ water into cups for
40% of the children, clean for 60%.
Ask those with dirty water how they
feel about that – did they do
something bad to deserve this? Ask
those with clean water what they’d
like to do for those with dirty water.
Finally, give
all
children a cup of
clean water – this is the goal of
Living Waters for the World
!
